Dr. Cynthia Jones
bought Compassionate Animal Care Clinic from Dr. Schelle in the summer of 2025. Here’s an opportunity to get to know Dr. Jones a little better with a quick Q&A…
- What inspired you to become a veterinarian?
- When I was in elementary school, my family used to foster pets for PetSmart. Sometimes they just needed a place to stay during the week until they got adopted, but sometimes they were ill, or needed to be raised to an adoptable age. One of those pets was Arthur, he came to us with parvo and recovered. He then got distemper, but he recovered from that also. I love to see recoveries, seeing petsnimals going from being at death’s door to running around a backyard.
- Tell us about your own pet(s) you have at home right now?
Nimbus is a cat that I got from my first job out of school. She was surrendered to the hospital as a kitten, and the techs refused to adopt her out because I’d been looking for a black female kitten!- The first picture above is me with my dog Puddin, who I dearly miss every day.
- What’s your favorite part about working with animals?
- I love it when we actually get to snuggle the pets that come in, it doesn’t happen often because that’s not actually the job! Often they’re nervous and don’t want our snuggles most of the time, but we try to calm them with love!
- Is there a particular animal species or breed you have a soft spot for?
- All the patients are special, but I love it when I get to see cats!
- What’s one fun fact about veterinary medicine people might not know?
- Veterinarians can specialize as so many things these days – anything from behavior to dentistry. Although general practitioners are legally allowed to do all of it, no brain can hold all that information! That’s why we prize our specialists for the things they know and do!
- If you weren’t a vet, what other job could you see yourself doing?
- I would either be running a wildlife rescue or training some sort of animal!
- What do you enjoy doing when you’re not at the clinic?
- Most of my time outside the clinic goes to my one year old. I however do enjoy reading, kayaking, hiking and snuggling my own cat!
- What’s one piece of advice you’d give to pet owners to keep their furry (or scaly/feathery) friends healthy?
- Do not let them loose outside by themselves! There are so many dangers you can protect them from if you are with them, dangers that they otherwise don’t know to avoid.
- What are you most excited about as you take on ownership of Compassionate Animal Care?
- I’m excited to meet all the clients and pets, and partner with them to ensure they live the longest, healthiest and happiest life possible.
