The 4th of July is three days away! Because the the Holiday falls on a Thursday this year, we are guaranteed a weekend of fireworks and noisy celebrations. Holidays are a time for celebrating,  but they can be terrifying for animals (and some people) with noise phobia, also called noise aversion or noise anxiety. This is likely to be a busy weekend at the shelters, so please make sure that your pet has identity tags, is microchipped (with up-to-date owner information), and, most importantly, is kept safe inside. More 4th of July Pet Safety Tips below.

It’s not just the fireworks that can be dangerous; this 4th of July will be toasty if you’re celebrating outside in the yard! The temperature is forecast to hit 110f/112f on Thursday/Friday this week. Your dog is as sensitive to heat as you are – some breeds more so. With all the excitement, it can be easy to overlook the welfare of your pet. If you intend to be outside, don’t let your dog be outside for more than 20 minutes at a time in those temperatures. Here are some 4th of July Pet Safety Tips put together by Lost our Home Pet Rescue:

A lot of these tips are common sense, but heat stroke is no joke for people or humans, and it needs to be avoided. I wrote a blog post in 2020 where I detailed things to do and things not to do if you suspect your dog has heat stroke – refresh yourself on that here.
